Woodrow Wilson was the 28th President of the United States, having served from 1913 to 1921. He was previously President of Princeton University (1902-1910) and Governor of New Jersey (1911-1913).
President Wilson’s father, Joseph Ruggles Wilson, was a Presbyterian theologician, who was born in Ohio, to Scots-Irish immigrants from Ireland. President Wilson’s mother was born Jessie Janet Woodrow, in Carlisle, Cumbria, England, to Scottish parents.
President Wilson’s paternal grandparents were James Wilson (the son of James Wilson and Agnes Henderson) and Mary Anne Adams (the daughter of David Adams and Mary Park). President Wilson’s paternal grandparents were both from Strabane, County Tyrone, Ireland, and were of Protestant background.
