Rick Springfield is an Australian singer, songwriter, musician, record producer, actor, and author. He was previously the lead guitarist and vocalist of the pop group Zoot, and later started a solo career after moving to the United States.
Rick is the son of Eileen Louise (Evennett) and Norman James Springthorpe, an Australian Army career officer.
Rick’s paternal grandfather was William Charles “Willie” Springthorpe (the son of John Henry Springthorpe and Hannah Wootton). John and Hannah were English immigrants. John was born in Warwickshire, the son of John Springthorpe and Helen/Eleanor Harriet Bushnell. Hannah was born in Staffordshire, the daughter of Charles Wootton and Matilda Lynex.
Rick’s paternal grandmother was Wilhelmina “Minnie” Abbot (the daughter of John David Abbot and Laura Lea). Wilhelmina was born in Mudgee, New South Wales, Australia. John was born in Australia, to a Scottish father, Sylvanus Abbot, and an English mother, Cecilia Sarah Elizabeth Tainton, from Gloucestershire. Laura was born in Kent, England, the daughter of Robert James Lea and Elizabeth Slater.
Rick’s maternal grandparents were William Henry Evennett (the son of Charles Augustus Evennett and Emma Elizabeth Thomas) and Mabel Lewis. William and Mabel were English immigrants.
